Grand Rapids, Michigan- June 8-10, 2018

It had been a while since we had been to a presidential tomb, so we decided to take a weekend trip to Michigan! Evan got off work the morning we left, so I had to drive most of the trip (a rare occurrence). Because of having to sit up straight for such an extended time, my somewhat fresh surgical wound ended up reopening. Thankfully, it wasn't in need of too much repair.

Our first stop was a town called Holland. There was a cute little replica village. There was even an authentic Dutch windmill that was original built in 1884 and brought to America in 1964. The windmill was brought over in about seven thousand pieces and weighed 66 tons! There is a tulip festival here every year. While we were there, it was quiet and peaceful.

We then went to the Gerald Ford Presidential Library and Museum. It is a beautiful building with a really unique water fountain in the front. We learned a lot about President Ford while we were there. The museum even had a piece of the Berlin Wall from when it was torn down. Behind the museum is the final resting place of President Ford and his wife.

We went to the Grand Rapids Museum. Our next stop was the John Ball Zoo. I think my favorite was the pictures I got of the lion! The zoo also has one of the highest points of elevation in the city. They also had a tram ride through the zoo.

The next day, we drove to Lake Michigan. Even though it was freezing cold, I had to at least put my feet in so I could say I had been in it!
