Aaron decided he wanted to look into applying for school in NYC, so I jumped on his offer to go to one of my favorite places (I had been twice before for very brief visits while in high school and college)! Aaron drove while I took a brief nap after working all night the night before. On the way there, Aaron got pulled over going above the speed limit in a construction zone. Somehow he didn't end up getting a ticket! I think the officer saw his Alaska driver's license and took pity on him, thinking he drove the entire way from Alaska. We decided to stay in one of the hotel at the Newark Airport. The room was very cheap, and we just took the train into town every day. This option was so much better than paying for a room in the city!
Every day, we got off the train at Penn Station and walked right into the Midtown area. We only had 3 days to spend in the city, and we were determined to do all that we could. We saw things such as the Empire State Building, New York Public Library, walking in the Fashion District, walking around Central Park, the World Trade Center Memorial, walking the High Line and the Brooklyn Bridge, etc.
One of my favorite things we did was walk the Brooklyn Bridge. I didn't realize how amazing this would be! It was just such an iconic walk with beautiful views of the city! I recommend this to anybody going to NYC! My second favorite new thing to do was the High Line. This is a walking path that was made from an old elevated subway track. This was such a peaceful garden walk in the middle of the concrete and cars.
We walked through so many different neighborhoods so Aaron could get impressions from each one. We went to visit Fordham University and Pace University. We walked through the Bronx and some of Brooklyn. We did so much walking that I could barely walk by the end of the three days, and my blood sugar kept dropping every couple of hours. I also got overheated. I don't recommend NYC in the summer if you are hot natured. Because of the massive buildings, the city has no airflow. There is so much to see and do in NYC, and I just absolutely love the city! Now to only talk Evan into coming with me at least once!
